SOPROEN Joins Forces with Malawi UNICEF to Enhance Emergency Social Protection Systems
Lilongwe, Malawi – January, 2025 – In a significant step forward for Malawi’s social protection initiatives, the Ministry of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare has partnered with SOPROEN to deliver Emergency Management Information System (EMIS) services. This collaboration seeks to strengthen the nation’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to the needs of vulnerable communities during emergencies throughout the year 2025.
Malawi continues to confront persistent challenges in poverty and vulnerability, with over half of the population experiencing multidimensional poverty. Natural disasters such as droughts and cyclones, alongside economic instability, further exacerbate these difficulties. In response, the government has prioritized the enhancement of its social protection systems, and EMIS has emerged as a vital tool in this endeavor. The system is designed to extend support rapidly to households affected by shocks, ensuring they receive targeted and timely assistance.
Under this partnership, SOPROEN will ensure the seamless operation of the EMIS through regular maintenance, server upgrades, and performance monitoring. As part of these efforts, the system will be migrated to a new server at the Ministry, following a robust testing phase to guarantee stability and reliability. Ministry staff will receive hands-on training to gradually assume full responsibility for system maintenance, fostering long-term sustainability.
The EMIS is central to Malawi’s emergency response efforts, streamlining processes such as data collection, duplication checks, and the preparation of beneficiary lists for aid distribution. SOPROEN’s expertise will also support interventions like lean season responses, urban cash transfers, and disaster recovery efforts, ensuring these programs are carried out efficiently and with maximum impact.
SOPROEN is proud to renew its collaboration with the Government of Malawi on this essential initiative. With a steadfast commitment to professionalism and innovation, we aim to deliver impactful solutions that make a real difference in the lives of the poorest households, helping them build a brighter, more secure future.
