Inputs for the Comprehensive Community Engagement Plan for Oil Drilling and Production Platforms in the Ecuadorian Amazon

In response to the social challenges arising from oil exploration in Ecuador’s Amazon, Gran Tierra Ecuador (GTE) partnered with ENTRIX and SOPROEN to develop a Comprehensive Community Engagement Plan (PIRC). The plan aims to foster harmonious relationships with local communities, promote socio-economic development, and improve household well-being. It is built around three primary objectives:

  1. Harmonious Coexistence: Establishing amicable and cooperative interactions with local communities.
  2. Community Development: Supporting initiatives that raise socio-economic standards.
  3. Enhanced Well-Being: Facilitating access to essential benefits and services.

To achieve these goals, the plan is structured along three strategic axes:

  • Community Infrastructure: Implementing essential infrastructure projects.
  • Household Capacity Development: Enhancing access to social services for households.
  • Social Assistance and Emergency Response: Addressing emergencies and structural social vulnerabilities.

The success of the initiative depends on maintaining transparent, bidirectional communication, employing well-trained personnel, and fostering collaborative efforts with local agencies and communities.
